What is Stingray City?

Stingray City is considered the top water sports attraction in the Cayman Islands and is one of the most popular sites in the Caribbean. It is located in the mouth of the North Sound where fisherman once cleaned their catch, attracting large southern Atlantic stingrays that are now accustomed to being handled by participants in daily snorkeling excursions.

There are both deep and shallow spots called Stingray City and the Stingray City Sandbar. Stingray City is considered the world’s best 12-foot dive but you can also snorkel at this site and see amazing tropical life, stingrays and coral reefs. The Sandbar is a shallow water destination where you play and interact with the stingrays in less than 3 feet of clear turquoise water.  This is truly an experience not to be missed. Nothing can quite prepare you for the thrill of petting, feeding, and being caressed by the stingrays as they swoop by like large rubbery Frisbees. Typically about 30 stingrays frequent the area, so you are just about guaranteed the opportunity to pet and swim along side these beautiful creatures.
